External thermal insulation composite systems – a wealth of possibilities

For more than six centuries, external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS) have been cladding the external walls of buildings. Their role is to increase the energy efficiency of these houses.

Polystyrene is the most frequently used material, but alternative insulating materials such as mineral wool, wood fibre or cork boards also exist. There are also customisable options to improve the appearance of the façade over the ETICS: by using various different types of plaster or materials made of brick, glass and wood. The selection of a suitable system is made on the basis of various criteria. You can find out which options are available for modernising this insulating material which is “difficult to recycle” in our Trending Topics section.
