tremco illbruck's products have an outstanding reputation both in Germany and far beyond, as they are synonymous with innovative, high-performance technology and solution- and service-oriented product development. From now on, four illbruck silicone sealants will be MEKO-free. The high-quality sealants FA801 Window Silicone, FA850 Glass Façade Silicone, FA870 Gloss Finish Natural Stone Silicone and FA880 Matt Finish Natural Stone Silicone will be replaced with a new, low-emission formulation. The benefit of this technology is that these silicon sealants no longer contain 2-butanone oxime (methylethyl ketone oxime, abbreviated to MEKO).
A real contribution to creating healthy living environments
“The demand for products which are more environmentally friendly and which create a healthier living environment continues to grow. In times of airtight buildings a high degree of vigilance with regard to potential sources of emissions in interiors is increasingly required” explains Torsten Windprechtinger, tremco illbruck's Head of Marketing & Product Management Central Europe, “and this is vital for a healthy living environment.”
By substituting the MEKO substances the silicone sealants are lower in emissions and are therefore more environmentally friendly and are also low-odour. In addition, the four products will also be distinguished with the EMICODE® label in future. illbruck already has more than 30 products in its portfolio which have been certified “very low-emission” with the EMICODE® EC1 or EC1PLUS label from the Association for the Control of Emissions in Products for Flooring Installation, Adhesives and Building Materials e.V. (Gemeinschaft Emissionskontrollierte Verlegewerkstoffe, Klebstoffe und Bauprodukte e.V. – GEV). Only construction products with particularly low emissions are awarded this distinction. These products are also suitable for use in interiors with no restrictions. The processing and quality characteristics of the products remain as excellent as before.
By switching to an “environmentally-friendly formulation”, tremco illbruck has also implemented a resolution adopted by the Industry Association for Sealants e.V. (Industrieverbands Dichtstoffe e.V. – IVD). One element of the resolution is the voluntary declaration that 2-butanone oxime will be substituted. As a result the potential danger of a workplace threshold of 1 mg/m3 which has been applicable since 2013 may be exceeded when using sealants is eliminated and fewer workplace health and safety measures are required.
